“The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29 (ESV)).
The first words out of John’s mouth, when he saw Jesus, was to proclaim why He came “to take away the sin of the world.” As D. A. Carson has put it: “If God had perceived that our greatest need was economic, he would have sent an economist. If he had perceived that our greatest need was entertainment, he would have sent us a comedian or an artist. If God had perceived that our greatest need was political stability, he would have sent us a politician. If he had perceived that our greatest need was health, he would have sent us a doctor. But he perceived that our greatest need involved our sin… and he sent us a Saviour.” Praise God He met us in our greatest need! Thank you Jesus!
Prayer: Thank you Jesus, as “the Lamb of God”, you came to set us free from the effects and power of sin. You came to pay a price we could not pay, to give us new life and purposeful life and to really live as we were designed to, by you. Thank you for that love that took you from the cradle to the cross. May we share your love this Christmas. In Jesus’ name - Amen
