Advent: Day 15

”And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself” (Luke 24:27 (NIV)).

Isaiah, some 800 years before the birth of Jesus wrote, “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6 (NIV)). Christmas reminds us of the beautiful prophecies that foretold the birth of Jesus. Some of the most beautiful come from the book of Isaiah, like Isaiah 9:6 above. Can you imagine being with Jesus that day on the road to Emmaus and having Him explain many of these prophecies about Himself? It must have been marvellous. As we spend time reflecting on Christ this Christmas, may the prophecies we encounter grip us, encourage us and help us to marvel once again at the majesty of God’s redemptive plan.

Prayer: We thank you Father, for how the Old Testament looks forward to the coming of Jesus. In the birth of Jesus, we see these prophecies come true and we look forward, in the second coming of Jesus, to many more being established. We thank you that Jesus came as a tiny baby but look forward to when He shall come again as King. We thank you for the prophetic word. In Jesus’ name Amen
